A Beautiful New Navajo Style Rug
Another Dave Foreman Rug To Be Raffled !

Beautiful Navajo Rug
For 2008 Rug Raffle!!!
We are very fortunate to have another rug woven by Dave Foreman of Bolton Landing to raffle this year.  Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and the funds support the work we do to keep Schroon Lake waters pure.  Be sure to buy your tickets.  They will be on sale in April at the Chamber of Commerce Office or the Morningstar Bistro.  The rug is displayed in the Chamber of Commerce Office where it can be seen until the new quilt arrives some time in May.

The Weaver

Dave Foreman
The Rug Weaver
Dave Foreman began weaving in 1993 in order to weave Navajo rugs. He began by learning from books and videos.  A few years later he invested in a 72” Cranbrook loom which allowed him to weave wider rugs and blankets.  Presently he uses a Harrisville loom almost exclusively.  His ultimate aim is to spin and dye his own wool and weave a traditional Navajo rug.  As Navajo looms are upright and you have to sit on the floor to weave, he has converted his Cranbrook loom into a Navajo loom which enables him to weave in a horizontal plane while sitting on a bench instead of the floor.

Duck Race in Mill Creek
Second Annual Duck Race Labor Day Weekend 2008!

The Schroon Lake Association will be selling ducks again this year!  Money from the sale of ducks is used to help fund our lake studies, and our fights against purple loosestrife and milfoil.  Be sure to enter the 2008 Duck Race which will be run on Sunday, August 31st at 2PM.  Buy a duck this year and help support the Schroon Lake Association!  For more information call 518-532-0202.

Were you there for the First Annual Duck Race?  It was an exciting event as the ducks were launched in Mill Creek!  Onlookers lined the banks of Mill Creek to watch the ducks as first one and then the other took the lead.  The "duck herders" followed at the end keeping all the ducks moving through the snags and eddies .  This made the race more exciting as the snagged ducks were freed to zoom ahead.  Cheering and shouts could be heard along the bank.  Nothing was certain until the end when all the ducks finally made it to the finish line.
